Economics explain almost everything

Why are males bigger than females in most vertebrate species?

Most males are bigger than females just because of one simple but important reason. They have battles between each other to access females. The body mass helps them to win the fight, be a leader among males and pass on the genetical code. Small males seldom gain access to females, that's why most of them are rather big, or we can even say fat.
For example the albatross male is the same size as the female just because they are monogamous and they don't have to fight for females.
