Economics explain almost everything

Why are petrol caps on the driver's side of some cars but on the passenger's side of others?

If all cars had petrol caps on the same side, during busy times there would be huge traffic at the petrol station even if the other side of the pump was empty. Putting petrol caps on different sides reduces the posibility of waiting for fuel in a big queue.

    I don't have a car but I suppose that by looking into the mirrors in both sides.
