Why are aluminium soft-drinks cans more expensive to produce than necessary?

Standard, tall, aluminium cans that are produced have about 30 per cent more aluminium than the shorter one with the same volume. But the trick is that people are more likely to buy these taller ones just because of the optical illusion, even if they contain exacly the same amount of liquid. Even though the shorter cans are cheaper to produce, sellers would earn less than producers of standard tall cans.
